Protecting and Promoting Local Journalism

Radio KDNA, The Yakima Herald-Republic and El Sol de Yakima are collaborating on a one year-long project to elevate and amplify the impacts of critical challenges facing the Yakima Valley. The project includes Audio, data visualization, live events and traditional storytelling formats in Spanish and English.

This project is supported by the Yakima Valley Community Foundation with training and technological assistance from Microsoft Corp.

The goal is to reach new audiences and demonstrate the value of local news and information as a driving force as people make decisions for the betterment of their communities. This requires an innovative strategy we are collaborating with the Yakima Herald-Republic and El Sol de Yakima to elaborate stories and share the in different platforms such as Radio in a way of storytelling, print and podcast.

Una buena atención médica es importante, pero no siempre es fácil de encontrar en zonas rurales. En el Valle de Yakima hemos visto cambios drásticos en los servicios médicos durante los últimos años. Algunos avances han mejorado la disponibilidad, mientras que otros han reducido los servicios y la atención.

El Yakima Herald-Republic trabaja en una serie de reportajes este año sobre el acceso a la atención médica en el Valle de Yakima.

Estamos buscando la ayuda de los miembros de la comunidad en una encuesta informal, no científica, que se usará para ayudar a guiar nuestra cobertura. Getting good medical attention is very important, but it is not always the case if you live in rural areas. In the Yakima Valley we have seen drastic changes with the health care services offered these last couple of years. Some changes have helped in being able to health care services better while others have reduced the services and attention for the patients.

The Yakima Herald Republic this year is coming out with a section in the newspaper to talk about the access to health care in the Yakima Valley.

We are looking for help from the community members to fill out this informal survey, non-scientific that will be used to help guide our research. If you have between 5 and 10 minutes we would like for you to fill out this survey. You are not required to leave your name but we would love to talk to you if you are willing to share your story.
